Introduction
In 2024, the Fondation Rilke acquired the collection of Sophy Giauque (∗ 1887 in Bienne, † 1943 in Lausanne). The Swiss artist's work includes small-format gouaches, as well as portraits, landscapes and still lifes in oil.
Rilke discovered Sophy Giauque's artistic work at an exhibition in Bern in 1925. Several paintings were temporarily on display at the Château de Muzot above Sierre.
Sophy Giauque's work remains to be rediscovered. In collaboration with art historian Michael Hiltbrunner, the Fondation Rilke presents the results of a research project. The temporary exhibition will be accompanied by a publication in the Foundation's series by Schwabe (Basel).
